A year of stories 38/52

5x5 framenew

After you read my weekly story, don’t forget to check out the rest of the circle,
starting with one of my favorite photographers, Tess Runion.

My goal this week was to head out to the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge
and photograph some of the beautiful free-roaming bison and longhorn.

As a child, I remember the awe of seeing these wild giants sauntering next to the roadway
and I was excited to capture this experience again as an adult.
I don’t know if it was the weather or where I was looking
or if I just have a more grand childhood memory of the area than actually existed,
but the beasts were nowhere to be found.

And I couldn’t be more grateful.

I was forced to turn down more roads and walk more paths and discover areas and nature that I never knew existed out there.

On my drive out, I did finally find some longhorns and
one buffalo (despite his unsuccessful attempt to hide from me behind that tiny bush;-)).

Tess - Oh these are awesome!!! It’s always fun to take my camera away from my kids and walk! Love it! Inspired me to go do it soon!
